About the Role

UTS is seeking a skilled and reliable Electrical Technician that will Install, maintain, and repair systems that use and transmit electricity, including indoor wiring and power and control systems that are part of HVAC operations. Troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, installing, and modifying various electrical and control systems for construction sites, plants, office buildings, and homes.

Electrical Technician Competency Assessment

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified electrician with N3
  • At least 3 years' experience in the field
  • HVAC experience will be an advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies

  1. Assessing Electrical Infrastructure in project sites
    • Evaluate a building's electrical infrastructure before installing a heat pump.
    • Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams
    • Evaluate electrical as well as operational problems
    • Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components and ensure control power supply to HVAC systems.
    • Identify and order supplies necessary to carry out work.
    • Inspect, test before supplying power and commissioning the system.
  2. Installing Wiring
    • Install new wiring or replace old wiring in a building. This may include running new wiring from the electrical panel to the heat pump's indoor and outdoor units.
    • Installing switches, relays, and other power distribution equipment.
    • Install, maintain, and repair electrical control, wiring & lighting systems.
  3. Troubleshooting & Testing
    • Use instruments to test electrical equipment and circuits to identify and troubleshoot malfunctioning components.
    • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems
    • Inspects and tests these systems as necessary, determines any repairs and replaces worn or defective parts.
    • Use electrical testing equipment to check electrical circuits and components.
    • Test pipe and tubing from the equipment to the fuel, water, or refrigerant source.
    • Lay out and connect electrical wiring using hand tools according to the wiring diagram
  4. Repairing
    • Repair electrical systems or faulty electrical equipment.
  5. Maintaining
    • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
    • Circuit breaker corrective maintenance
    • Attend call-outs timely
